Mr. Moriarty is the co-founder and owner of the Pinelands Group, LLC., a trusted partner for international trade and border security solutions. Specializing in providing expert business advisory services and government advocacy for their clients, the Pinelands Group delivers practical solutions for both the private and public sector.
Before founding the Pinelands Group, Ed dedicated over 32 years of his career to serving as a law enforcement officer, international trade specialist and border security professional within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). With more than 25 years in the manager/senior manager echelon, Mr. Moriarty has held various positions within CBP’s Office of Field Operations in New York, NY; Nassau, Bahamas; Washington, DC; and Philadelphia, PA. He is recognized as a proven leader and effective team builder with an extensive background in CBP/DHS policy, Port of Entry procedures and operations, import/export requirements, and identifying and adjudicating operational vulnerabilities.
In 1991, Ed began his career with the U.S. Customs Service as a frontline Inspector at JFK Airport in New York. In this capacity, he developed a comprehensive understanding and expertise in international trade policy, import/export regulations, and the targeting, identification, and inspection of high-risks individuals and cargoes seeking entry into the U.S.
In 1995, Mr. Moriarty transferred to Nassau, Bahamas, where he actively countered local and international drug smuggling operations across Bahamian air and marine domains. Serving as the U.S. Customs liaison with both the Bahamian narcotics police and the U.S. Embassy, Ed played a pivotal role in building coalitions and facilitating collaborative efforts to combat illicit activities.
In 1999, Ed transferred to U.S. Customs Headquarters in Washington DC, where he assumed responsibility for several anti-smuggling and anti-terrorism initiatives under the Office of Border Security and Facilitation. As a key architect of the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) program, Ed played a leading role in its inception and subsequent expansion. This included his assignment to the World Customs Organization (WCO) in Brussels, Belgium, where he facilitated the integration of CTPAT principles among WCO membership countries, and across the broader international trade community.
In 2005, Ed transferred the Port of Philadelphia where he maintained oversight and accountability for complex U.S. Port of Entry operations across multiple modes of transportation, throughout all international cargo and passenger environments, and across all agriculture and trade import/export pathways. Ed’s commitment to trade compliance, enforcement and facilitation has been recognized by the regional trade community, among local, state, and federal elected officials, and the industry at large.
Originally from Southern New Jersey, Mr. Moriarty earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public/Applied History from Western Maryland College, Westminster, MD. Ed is a graduate of the DHS Fellows Program and has received numerous accolades for his contributions, including multiple Commissioner Citations for his work on the CTPAT and WCO initiatives, as well as multiple Blue Eagle Citations for his enforcement efforts. Additionally, Ed has been honored with the Ambassador’s Award of Excellence for his service to the Bahamian people and the U.S. embassy in the Bahamas, as well as the WCO Secretary General’s Award for Partnership. He has also received multiple Commissioner Unit Citation Awards for his collaborative efforts in the ports of Philadelphia and New York.
